As I read your post the thought I had is sometimes it is hard to let go of the old because it follows us into the new. Although Lam 3:22-24 is what God desires, one can wake up with this in mind but still face the same problem if it is right in front of you. I do learn from the day before and I pray incessantly my oldest Daughter will as well. As parents we have decided it is time to rid our lives of the stress and toll we let go of each night only to be thrown into new stress again. We can no longer be enablers. It is time for all of us to move on. Thank you for helping me to see that through a clean window instead of one with smudges.
Oh, Alicia. Jesus keeps leading me back to your newest offering. I keep rationalizing that I can’t afford another book, i probably will not finish it… I read the one on regret and collecting praise. They are still on my heart, I sense the Lord desiring to do business with my soul…I fear pain, pruning and lots of repentance which heightens shame. Please pray for me. I feel a loneliness in sensing few believers will have a desire to “go here” with me.
Intrigued, I love the reference to the manger full, the tomb empty.
Thank you Alicia for your reference to Lamentations 3: 22-24. Many people want things to change and be different than last year. It’s why we buy the gym membership, get a life coach, make new commitments and resolutions.
A critical question to consider. What will you do when you are two weeks into the commitment or the resolution and the wheels fall off?Verse 23 says,….his mercies begin afresh each morning. This is what it means. Consider this. How you feel about a new year is how God feels about a new day. He gives new mercies every day. They are not tired and worn out.
Congratulations on the new project. I look forward to reading it this Lenten Season. I appreciate your humility and authenticity.
“You do not have to torment yourself with the past in order to learn from the past. In Christ, learn and let go!”…I think we sometimes do not learn from the past because we are afraid in bringing those memories back, those regret moments/times. BUT, thank to Jesus for the empty tomb!!
So looking forward to read your book Alice, 40 Days of Decrease..and fast in regret (never thought about that way..is an eye opener). I really enjoyed/learned reading Fasting Regrets at FaithGateway.com (I read it twice!..and printed as well :))
As I was reading the post, I heard
“Hello, my name is regret
I’m pretty sure we have met
Every single day of your life
I’m the whisper inside
That won’t let you forget”
from the song by Matthew West – Hello, My Name Is
I thought, ok Lord, I hear You. I will let go of regret. and I was reminded that this is the year of Jubilee. Time to be looking forward and not behind. A time of healing and freedom, and blessing to come forth. Yes Lord, and Amen!
