Seven Woes, part 6

Woe to us when we attempt to outrun addictions.

Will we slow down and seek help?

woes part 6Addictions simply can’t be outrun.

They will not be silenced by noise, exhausted by activity, or intimidated by sacrifice.

Slow down.

Face the ugly.

Come in out of the noise.

Now IS better than later.

Later may be a little too late…for you, for those you love, and for your full potential in this generation.

Pause.

Get help.

Freedom has never been free.

Jesus paid in blood.

You may have to pay

in tears,

postponed dreams,

and even humiliation.

Pay now. The interest on this debt is too high.

Pay now. Stop lying to yourself…and to others.

Think of those who didn’t pay early.

They would beg you to pay now.

Honor their battle-won wisdom for the sake of

your soul,

your legacy,

your family,

and your Lord.

    So true…no matter the demon of the addiction, it cannot be outrun. Drugs, alcohol, money, gambling, body image, fame, fill in the blank..….it is never satisfied. This is a post packed with wisdom for all of us who have battled an addiction.

      Thank you, Leah, for pointing out that addiction takes on many forms. And whatever the form, God’s Spirit thankfully has the power to bring freedom whether the addiction is to drugs, shopping, or food. My heart in writing the post ached for those suffering in isolation–perhaps near others but too ashamed/afraid to get help. Thank you for commenting!
